Entry #8: To New Experiences

Hello again! (It's October, or as I like to call it - the month of Halloween, so consider this a rising from the dead)

It’s been (almost exactly) two months since I last posted on here. I guess you could say it’s been a rough couple of months. I mean this entire trip has proved to be kinda difficult – but it’s also been a learning experience I’ll treasure forever. As you probably read in one of my previous posts, I lost my waitressing job back in August. I was pretty devastated about it – not because it was my dream job – it certainly wasn’t. But it was home – it was a safe place for me to surround myself with a good group of people (most of whom I’m still friends with even now, thankfully) and I’m really grateful I got to work there. It was difficult to write up a blog post when it most likely would’ve been me venting or crying about how stressed I was. And my roommates can tell you – there was a lot of that.

It’s been discouraging two months full of no call backs, poor management, and slow trial runs. It hasn’t been fun or glamorous or interesting. It’s been exhausting and disheartening and beyond stressful. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to lose it because I didn’t know if I’d be able to pay rent or have enough money for groceries. But thanks to a lot of budgeting and ignoring any advice to “just come home” I managed to keep on going. And thankfully – it paid off. I applied to a recruitment agency – just asking for any temp jobs and after an interview last Monday they told me I’d be working in the next week or so. Temp jobs are pretty straightforward – you go where an agency sends you and do admin, IT, or reception for a few days/weeks depending on how long someone needs you. It’s not my dream job, but it’ll be a routine and income, which I’m more than happy about.

Thankfully, it hasn't been all bad. In my four months here I've realized it's really about the little things in life. Whether it's trying new food, crashing a hen party, making a new dish for the first time, or watching the sun rise - it makes you appreciate every single moment. Here's to hoping the next eight months here are just as magical.

Until next time!

Cheers,

Catherine
