Entry #5: TIPS!

Or "5 Things I've Learned (So Far) While Living Abroad"

1. Sometimes, being an adult means getting out of bed and walking the 1/2 mile to the store, in the rain, even when you're sick with a cold (someone's gotta get the groceries - especially the soup).

2. Living abroad is fun - but also really lonely at times. There will be days where you miss your friends and family so much that you could curl up under the covers and not come out all day. But it's important to do so anyway - and make friends with your roommates so you feel less lonely.

3. Finding a "home-y place" or a comfortable place to relax is really important. I'm lucky enough to have a few of these places that I've found around the city. So far I've found a bookshop I visit frequently, an American candy store, and a secret spot in a park right under a willow tree. It's the little things that count.

4. Making friends is really difficult when you work 40-50 hours a week, but it's also really easy if you've got wonderful co-workers (and work at a bar where you can drink the night away with them after a long shift).

5. Making a day for yourself, once a week, to do something just for yourself. Whether it's going for a walk, or on a bus tour, or to the zoo - finding something you wouldn't normally do, is one way to remind you that this is everything you've ever wanted. Until next time!

Cheers, Catherine
