Entry #4: New Paths

July 21, 2018

Hello again! I honestly can't believe I'm managing to do this once-a-week thing - I'm not usually good about these sorts of things!

Not much has happened in the past week... I dropped a few glasses at work and got yelled at by my boss (but that's the norm when you're a waitress at a five-star restaurant). Don't get me wrong - I still love it, but I definitely feel the need to do something else with my life other than waiting on customers hand and foot.

Speaking of which - I recently was researching some volunteer trips in Europe for my fields of interest, and I found some interesting ones! Some of you reading this may know, I wanted to be a marine biologist for basically majority of my childhood (and then I realized how much school I'd have to do and I said "hell no"). I still have that itch at times to do something related with the ocean and over the past few years I made the discovery of conservation photography which piqued my interest. I did some searches online and found an online school (which is actually based here in Ireland) that offers conservation courses. Naturally I signed up as soon as I could and starting Monday, I'll be beginning my course in Wildlife Conservation. I have the option of completing a certificate in the study, but that's almost $2,000 so I thought I'd wait and see if I was any good at the course (and pay a little bit of my student loans back before I began another debt).

Another thing I did this week was go to the Dublin Zoo! I'm not usually a big fan of zoos, unless they specialize in conservation and rehabilitation, and thankfully this one does! They're very proficient in teaching their visitors about the different species and how endangered they all are. The employees who spoke at each exhibit were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It definitely reminded me that I wanted to take photos to emphasize issues in the conservation of animals.

Until next time!

Cheers,

Catherine
