So a couple days ago a coworker asked to switch shifts with me - he'd take my Saturday for his Sunday. I didn't really care - I knew he wanted to watch the finals for the World Cup, so I agreed and I ended up taking a spur of the moment trip to the Wicklow Mountains/Glendalough. It was amazing.
The past month has basically felt like an experience that just wouldn't end. Don't get me wrong - I love living here, it just never felt like I lived in Ireland. I hadn't seen any rolling hills or taken any pictures of the landscape - it was just endless appointments and days of working. Which, I know, in the end will be helpful for me, but I was running on fumes.
So yesterday, in between working a double shift, I made a booking to go see the Wicklow Mountains for today. And it was exactly what I needed. I finally got to see the rolling hills and the vast landscapes - I even got to see familiar places where movies were filmed.
At first, I was kind of hesitant about doing something like this, alone - but it turned out to be really fun.. I didn't have to worry if someone else was enjoying their time - or pace myself with anyone else. It was just me, my camera, and some music to go with the atmosphere.
I got to take pictures for the first time, in what felt like ages, and it felt really great to get back into it. I think today really helped solidify one of the reasons I'm in Europe - which is to expand my photography portfolio and eventually find a job that I can do this for a living.
Waitressing is fine for now - I know it's just a temporary (and exhausting) job, but I'll have that job that keeps me going and makes me want to get out of bed every day - I just have to be a little more patient.
Anyway, enough of me rambling - here are some photos from today.
Until next time!
Cheers,
Catherine
